Despite a promising rookie season, the New York Giants could move on from quarterback Jaxson Dart under certain circumstances. The NFC East (2-13) could secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft with a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 17, which would open a plethora of options.

During Sunday’s edition of “NFL GameDay,” insider Ian Rapoport issued a warning to Dart, noting that the Giants aren’t ruling out any option ahead of the 2026 offseason. This includes picking the recently-crowned Heisman award winner, Fernando Mendoza of Indiana.

“There also is a chance that the Giants lose, which means the Giants could have the number one overall pick,” Rapoport said. “Expect them to evaluate all options, including looking at Fernando Mendoza before they make a decision how they’re going to proceed if they have this pick.”

This would be major, more so considering that the Giants traded up to get the No. 25 overall pick in April to land Dart. They are in a worse position than in 2024 (4-13), but it could also result in a much better turnaround. Jaxson Dart has shown highs and lows during his rookie season, which includes a 2-8 record as a starter.

Fernando Mendoza turned a lot of heads during his 2025 campaign. He went 226 of 316 for 2,980 yards and 35 touchdowns with six interceptions in his junior season, the first with the Hoosiers. Mendoza has shown traits that make him an attractive quarterback for many franchises.

The Giants might go through a major restructuring after firing head coach Brian Daboll mid-season, and a new quarterback could be at the top of their list.
