CINCINNATI —

Joe Burrow got Christmas gifts for the Bengals’ offensive line this year, and — just like last year — they were anything but ordinary.

Burrow, who famously gifted his teammates authentic samurai swords last year, followed this year’s Christmas up with an even older piece of history: fossils.

According to Bengals players who were given the gifts, Burrow is said to have invited his teammates over to his home in Cincinnati on Monday, where an array of authentic dinosaur, mammoth, and bear fossils were lined up on display waiting for them.

He then allowed players to pick out their fossil of choice upon arrival, with more senior members of the team permitted to make their selection first.

Bengals center Ted Karras said that he picked out a mammoth tusk for his present, which is reportedly estimated to be about 30,000 years old.

“I think it speaks to his intelligence and interests and his desire to do something unique,” Karras told ESPN on Friday. “I thought it was really special.”

Burrow’s love of fossils was documented earlier this year in Netflix’s hit show, “Quarterback,” where he recounted being amazed at a visit to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, which boasts one of the most diverse dinosaur fossil collections in the world.

“Why were fossils on my mind?” Burrow said in the episode, repeating back a question that was asked to him. “I don’t know, cause they’re cool? When aren’t fossils on your mind? They go back millions of years. That’s sick.”

Burrow went on to say that he tried to make an offer to the museum’s curators to buy some of the fossils, but was turned down.

However, with this year’s most recent round of atypical Christmas gifts, it now appears that Burrow has successfully found a supplier that is willing to sell him the bones.

Some of the other fossils that were picked out by the team reportedly included a bone belonging to a Tyrannosaurus rex that was selected by rookie left guard Dylan Fairchild. Meanwhile, running back Chase Brown and offensive tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims all opted for bear skulls.
