In the Week 16 game between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles two weeks ago at Northwest Stadium, tempers flared in the fourth quarter. It was because Eagles coach Nick Sirianni thought it would be a good idea to go up 29-10 instead of 28-10 with around four minutes remaining in the game.
The Commanders took this about as well as expected. A fight broke out. Punches were thrown. Players were ejected. After the game, Washington head coach Dan Quinn was not happy.
“I can only answer from my side and what I would do,” Quinn said. “But, hey man, like that’s how they want to get down then. Like all good. We play them again in two weeks.”
Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner offered a similar sentiment, but admitted it’s up to Washington’s defense to stop them.
Week 17 is in the books, which means Week 18 is around the corner. Will cooler heads prevail when the Eagles host the Commanders? You can bet Philadelphia fans will remember what happened in Week 16.
But before we get there, the NFL revealed the punishments for Week 16. Fortunately, there were no suspensions.
Interestingly, Kinlaw received the largest fine for swinging. Yet, Tyler Steen was punished for multiple infractions, including swinging, and received a smaller fine.
Next week’s game means little in the standings. Washington is playing for draft positioning at this point (don’t tell that to the players), while the Eagles could be battling for playoff seeding. If Philadelphia’s spot is secure ahead of Week 18, look for the Eagles to play mostly backups. You can bet those players on the field next Sunday will not forget what happened in Week 16.
