After a career-high 36 carries for a season-high 216 yards and four touchdowns Saturday in Green Bay, Derrick Henry said he might be a little sore the next day, but he felt good.
“I’m built for it,” he said. “This is what I train for.”
The prevailing belief is that Henry gets stronger as the season goes on. As his opponents’ bodies get achier, the ageless Henry keeps pounding away.
The stats back it up. Henry’s 90.0 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade against the Packers was his highest of the season. Last year, his 90.4 grade in Week 17 in Houston was his highest mark.
According to Next Gen Stats (NGS), Henry’s top speed increased with each quarter, topping out at 20.72 mph on his 25-yard touchdown to ice the game. That was his fourth-fastest top speed of the season. His average speed in the first half was 6.7 mph. In the second half, it was 8.5.
Henry set season-highs with nine missed tackles forced and +97 rushing yards over expected (RYOE), per NGS. He bludgeoned the Packers on inside carries in the first half, totaling 73 yards, two touchdowns, and +30 RYOE on 15 such carries. In the second half, he was much more effective on outside runs, gaining 75 yards and +49 RYOE.
A week after Henry’s snap share was questioned, he had 48 snaps to 14 for Keaton Mitchell and 15 for Rasheen Ali.
