The Detroit Lions entered 2025 with Super Bowl dreams. Instead, they’re heading into Week 18 without a playoff ticket for the first time in three years and a flood of questions about what went wrong. One question, however, now has a definitive answer: Jared Goff isn’t going anywhere.
On his WXYT-FM (97.1) appearance, head coach Dan Campbell was direct about the quarterback’s future. “Jared Goff is a stud. He played better than in 2024. We’re thankful to have him. He is not going NOWHERE,” Campbell said, doubling down on Detroit’s commitment to their signal-caller amid rumors of a potential quarterback reset.

Speculation around Goff’s future emerged in the wake of Detroit’s late-season collapse, capped by a Week 17 loss to the Vikings that officially ended their playoff pursuit. But while the Lions fell short, Goff’s production remained among the league’s best with 4,233 passing yards and 33 touchdowns, ranking second overall.
Though the offense as a whole stumbled, fueled in part by the departure of both coordinators individual performance has remained a steadying force since arriving from Los Angeles. Any potential trade, aside from being financially burdensome ($40 million in dead cap), would also require Goff’s approval due to a no-trade clause in his contract.

While the quarterback situation appears resolved, Detroit’s coaching staff isn’t entirely safe. Campbell left the door open to changes, particularly on defense, after a season where grit gave way to inconsistency.
“I’m going to be looking at a lot,” Campbell said of his off season plans. “I do not like being home for the playoffs.”
The Lions have begun their rebuilding process with Goff firmly in place. What comes next, particularly on defense, may shape whether this team can recapture its bite in 2026.
