The New England Patriots’ superstar wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, is facing serious felony charges, according to a motion hearing in Dedham District Court on Tuesday.According to court documents, Diggs is charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges from an incident on Dec. 2.Charging documents allege that on that date, Diggs smacked a private chef over a paycheck dispute at a Dedham residence.The chef reportedly told Diggs she was owed a month’s pay after being sent home for a week in November “because was having house guests,” according to court paperwork.The paperwork alleges Diggs became angered by these comments.According to court documents, Diggs then “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”The documents allege the woman “…had trouble breathing and that she felt like she could have blacked out. She said that as she tried to pry his arm away, he tightened his grip. At that point the male threw her onto the bed. He said something to the effect of ‘Thought so’.”The police report showed the woman had some redness on her chest but didn’t take pictures. The chef had been hired around July 20 and was supposed to work through the end of the NFL season. She left her position following the alleged assault.Diggs’s lawyer, David Meier released the following statement on his behalf:”Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.” A spokesperson for the New England Patriots released the following statement:”The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”An NFL spokesperson said the league is aware of the matter and has been in contact with the organization. The league has declined to comment on the matter.The 31-year-old receiver will be arraigned on Jan. 23, 2026, two days before the AFC championship game.
