The Miami Dolphins have a University of Miami alum back on the team.
The Dolphins announced they signed former Miami Hurricanes defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr. to the practice squad Tuesday.
Barrow was with UM for the 2024 season, earning All-ACC First-Team honors, recording 30 tackles (13 solo), eight for loss, 5 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble in 13 games and 12 starts.
He transferred to the Hurricanes from Michigan State, where he had 110 tackles, 10 1/2 sacks, 18 1/2 tackles for loss, one pass defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, along with two blocked field goals in 34 games and 30 starts from 2020 through 2023.
Barrow went undrafted and signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He spent earlier parts of the seasons on the Falcons and Cleveland Browns practice squads.
The Dolphins were without a Miami alum on either the active roster or practice squad before the move after trading outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles at the deadline this season. They have former Hurricanes cornerback Artie Burns on injured reserve after his knee injury in training camp.
The Dolphins previously had UM alumni in defensive lineman Calais Campbell and wide receiver Braxton Berrios on the roster in 2024 before they moved on in free agency.
With the Hurricanes in 2024, Barrow was coached by Dolphins Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor, who is Miami’s defensive line coach.
Barrow will likely be kept on a futures contract after season’s end, to have him start the offseason with the Dolphins. Miami has three rookie defensive tackles on the active roster in Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers. The team’s only practice squad defensive lineman before Tuesday was Alex Huntley, an undrafted rookie out of South Carolina.
