Lane Kiffin is headed into what will be an aggressive effort to rebuild the LSU Tigers for the 2026 college football season.
After choosing to leave Ole Miss ahead of the College Football Playoff to become the next head coach for LSU, Kiffin has his work cut out for him. He has seen quite a few players enter the transfer portal and will need to replace them. Kiffin will also need to add additional talent on top of those replacements to get the Tigers back into contention.
While the process could take a few years, Kiffin is looking to make the turnaround much quicker than that.

One of the big needs heading into the transfer portal opening will be finding a new quarterback. Garrett Nussmeier has taken his final snap with LSU and replacing him will not be easy.

Keeping that in mind, Kiffin is widely expected to explore the transfer portal to find his 2026 starting quarterback.
Plenty of quarterback talent has entered the transfer portal. There will be no shortage of options that the Tigers could look into. One of those signal callers is none other than Cincinnati standout Brendan Sorsby.
On3 Sports college football insider Pete Nakos has officially named LSU as a team to watch for Sorsby in the portal. However, Nakos also mentioned that Texas Tech is emerging as a potential suitor.
“Sourcing continues to indicate that the early school to watch is Texas Tech,” Nakos wrote. “He threw for 2,800 yards with 27 touchdowns to just five interceptions this season. Another name worth mentioning is LSU, sources tell On3.”
Sorsby has played in four total college football seasons with his first two being on the Indiana Hoosiers and the last two years being played at Cincinnati. In those years, he has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 7,208 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions, while also running for 1,305 yards and 22 more touchdowns.

Other names who have been brought up for the Tigers are Sam Leavitt, Dylan Raiola, and DJ Lagway. There are other quarterbacks out there who could make sense for Kiffin and company as well.
Expect to continue hearing rumblings surrounding the LSU football program and its quarterback search. Sorsby is a name worth keeping a very close eye on.
