The Atlanta Falcons went into their Week 17 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams as heavy underdogs, but they were up for the challenge. With world watching on Monday night, the Falcons got out to a 21-0 lead and finished the job in the second half to secure a 27-24 win.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford entered the game with just five interceptions on the season and tossed three more picks before the night was over. Falcons rookie Xavier Watts came down with two interceptions and veteran Jessie Bates III recorded a pick-six off of Stafford.
Bijan Robinson had another incredible game, racking up 229 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Raheem Morris out-coached Sean McVay and the Falcons put together a complete effort to defeat one of the best teams in the NFL.
While the Falcons won’t be heading to the playoffs, they gave their fans something to cheer in an otherwise disappointing season. Here’s how those around the NFL reacted to Monday’s upset.

the 49-year Falcons-Saints rivalry has all been leading to the moment Sunday when they decide an NFC South title that neither team can win

Imagine watching the Falcons on Prime Time this season…beating the Vikings, Bills, Bucs, and Rams and playing the way that they did. Has to be confusing as a neutral as to why the Falcons are 7-9 & aren’t in the playoffs. pic.twitter.com/XJfoX1T62V

#Falcons RB Bijan Robinson is up to a wild 2,255 scrimmage yards this season after putting up 229 last night.

The Falcons had fourth quarter leads inside of 2:00 against the Bucs (Week 1), Colts, Panthers (Week 11) & Jets this season.
Had they closed out one of those, they’d be in position to win the division this weekend. Had they closed out Carolina, they’d control their own destiny.

Remember, Watts was the result of the other draft pick the #Falcons got from the Rams back in April.
