NASHVILLE-CHASE alum Carlos Watkins is coming a little closer to home. The nine-year NFL veteran signed a one-year free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans on May 13.
”I’m truly grateful. To play this game for nine years is a blessing,” Watkins said in a text.
Watkins spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys.
Tennessee is the sixth different stop for Watkins during his journeyman career. Since being drafted in the fourth round by the Houston Texans in 2017, Watkins has played for Houston, Dallas (two stints), Arizona, Los Angeles (Rams), Washington and now Tennessee.
During his NFL career, Watkins has played in 87 regular-season games, garnering 151 tackles and six sacks from his Defensive Tackle position. Watkins also has one career touchdown. While playing for the Cowboys in 2021, he scored on a 29-yard interception return vs. the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.
Before making it to the NFL, Watkins was a two-sport standout at CHASE. He registered a combined 29 sacks in his final two seasons in Henrietta and averaged just over 21 points per game on the basketball court. Watkins then attended Clemson University where he earned All-ACC and All-American honors, helping the Tigers win the National Championship in 2017.
