Washington Commanders punter Tress Way has been with the team since the Commanders claimed him off waivers in 2014. He’s no stranger to tough times as part of the Commanders’ organization, and this season was no different.

Way has been a constant over the last decade in Washington, making the Pro Bowl twice and being selected as a second-team All-Pro in 2019. As a punter, he doesn’t typically get any glory or a ton of face time, but when he was selected to his third Pro Bowl this year, the Commanders made it special.

On the latest episode of Hard Knocks, the Commanders worked with Way’s family, including his wife, kids, and in-laws, to surprise him at the team facility. You can also see head coach Dan Quinn and safety Jeremy Reaves in the mix as well.

Punters are often found in the shadows of their respective teams, a necessary piece, but it’s not a flashy position. He only sees the field if the offense fails to move the ball, which is something every team is trying to do.

Tress Way saw more field time this season than he would have liked, but his punting ability kept the Commanders alive in multiple games. He deserves this Pro Bowl, and he definitely deserved to be surprised by his family as a congratulations from the organization he’s dedicated his career to.
