Lane Kiffin left the Ole Miss Rebels after the team’s 11-1 finish in the regular season, taking his new head coaching job with the LSU Tigers.

Under newly-hired head coach Pete Golding, the Rebels rolled through their first-round College Football Playoff matchup against Tulane — taking down the Green Wave with a 41-10 final score. And on Thursday night, the team continued its program-best campaign with a thrilling Sugar Bowl victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Ole Miss fought back to overcome a fourth-quarter deficit against Georgia, notching a 39-34 final score at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

With the score tied at 34-34 in the final minute of the game, Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss drove down the field and put his team in position for the go-ahead field goal. The game ultimately came to a close after the Georgia offense gave up a safety on a desperation lateral play.

Though Kiffin is now preparing for his first season in Baton Rouge, he’s still keeping an eye on the team he coached for the entire 2025 regular season.

The LSU head coach posted a Trinidad and Tobago flag on social media immediately after the Rebels’ victory, referencing the stellar performance put forth by his former quarterback.

Chambliss finished the game with 362 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions on 30/46 passing.

Kiffin has continually voiced his support for the Rebels since his departure for LSU.

“It was awesome,” Kiffin said after Ole Miss’ first-round win over Tulane. “It was a great day. It really was. I’m not just saying that. To watch those guys and how much they were smiling having that success.”

“It was the biggest game in the history of the state of Mississippi,” he added. “To blow out Tulane like that, it was awesome watching them. I was really excited for them.”

With Thursday night’s Sugar Bowl win over No. 3 seed Georgia, No. 6 seed Ole Miss now turns its attention toward a Fiesta Bowl matchup against the No. 10 seed Miami Hurricanes. If the Rebels continue their run with a win next weekend, they’ll face off against either No. 1 seed Indiana or No. 5 seed Oregon in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
