Five Eagles players did not practice on Thursday as the team continues to prepare for Week 18. But the Eagles are planning on resting a bunch of starters on Sunday anyway.
DT Jalen Carter (hip) was added to the report on Thursday as a non-participant. Carter was at the portion of practice open to reporters but apparently did not practice. He was one of five players who didn’t practice on Thursday as the team moved indoors:
Here’s the full injury report from Thursday:
DNP: DT Jalen Carter (hip), LB Nakobe Dean (hamstring), TE Dallas Goedert (knee), T Lane Johnson (foot), OLB Jaelan Phillips (ankle)
Full: LB Jihaad Campbell (back/shoulder), S Marcus Epps (concussion)
After practice, safety Marcus Epps reported symptoms to the team and it was determined he has a concussion. So Epps is now in concussion protocol.
Goedert, Dean and Carter were spectators at practice, while Johnson and Phillips were not seen during the portion of practice open to reporters.
LB Jihaad Campbell (back/shoulder) was practicing after being listed as limited to start the week. This should be his second straight start.
And OT Cameron Williams (shoulder) was practicing after being listed as a full participant to start the week. The Eagles activated Williams off IR to the 53-man roster, which means the sixth-round pick will make his NFL debut on Sunday. Williams on Thursday was removed from the injury report after being activated.
The Eagles are going to rest many key starters for their Week 18 game against the Commanders, so it’s not a big deal that Johnson, Dean, Goedert and Phillips are not practicing this week. They will obviously not play against the Commanders as the Eagles rest up for their wild-card round game the following week.
Johnson will miss his seventh consultive game after suffering a Lisfranc sprain against the Lions on Nov. 16 and Dean will miss his second after suffering a hamstring injury against the Commanders on Dec. 20.
Phillips suffered that ankle injury in the win over Buffalo and could probably use a bye week anyway; he has already played in 17 games this season because of the timing of his trade from the Dolphins to the Eagles. Goedert has missed just one game all year but will likely sit in this regular season finale.
Some Eagles starters are going to be inactive on Sunday, while others will be limited and some will dress out but will not play.
Expect Tanner McKee to get the start at quarterback for Jalen Hurts, who will be given the week off.
