Buffalo Bills right to go for win in final seconds of Eagles game

“They wanted to get the win right there.”

It’s the end of an era for the Buffalo Bills with the last regular season home game on Jan. 4, which is shaping up to be played under clear but freezing conditions.

While Highmark Stadium will have a momentous sendoff, including a beer brewed from snow gathered at games this season, the weather won’t be noteworthy by the standards of its most epic games. But it’s still expected to be cold, with a slim chance of snow showers.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo predicts temperatures will be a frigid 22 degrees with a wind chill down to just 11 degrees at kickoff. The skies will be cloudy with a limited precipitation potential and wind gusting up to 21 mph out of the west.

The AccuWeather forecast calls for similar conditions, with a temperature of 23 degrees and feels-like temperature of 12 degrees. The wind is expected to gust up to 17 mph, with just a 20% chance of precipitation and clouds.

Neither forecast expects there to be snow during the game, but there is a chance of flurries before the late afternoon kickoff.

How Jets vs Bills weather will impact odds, betting

Temperatures colder than 30 degrees and wind greater than 15 mph can both impact scoring, as well as kicking and passing production. Those impacts are considered light compared to impacts like precipitation or more extreme temperatures, hot or cold.

The 11-5 Bills are favored by 8 points over the 3-13 Jets, who have lost four straight games, including a 42-10 drubbing by the New England Patriots in Week 16. The over/under is set at 37.5 points.

Buffalo leads the all-time series over the Jets, 72-58, including a single postseason victory in 1981. The Jets have lost four in a row to the Bills, most recently a 30-10 loss on Sept. 14.   The New York Jets and Buffalo Bills will play at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4 at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. The game will be broadcast on CBS affiliates including WROC channel 8 in Rochester. Andrew Catalon, Charles Davis and Jason McCourty will call the game with sideline reporter AJ Ross.
