Team Glazer members.

A majority of Bucs fans want Todd Bowles launched from his perch as Tampa Bay head coach. The groundswell has been stunning across local fandom over the past month.

Even calm, measured fans Joe has known for years are chirping for Bowles’ head.

“Fans are smart. Fans know right. Fans know wrong.”

You know who issued that intelligent quote? Buccaneers co-owner Joel Glazer.

Speaking at the 2015 NFL owners meetings, Glazer was asked, “How important is the pulse of the fans to you in every thing you do?”

Glazer responded:

“Ultimately, we want our fans to be happy because that means we’re having success. That’s the barometer,” Glazer began.

“You know, fans want a winning team. We want a winning team. They want a team they can be proud of. We want a team we can be proud of. Everyone’s interests are aligned. So I wouldn’t say you take the fan temperature on every single thing that’s going on.

“I always say, ‘Fans are smart. Fans know right. Fans know wrong.’ Fans know when something is being done right. They know when something is wrong.

“It’s always important to be in touch with your fans and know how they feel and see how they feel about things going on in the stadium, how they’re going on with the team, and everything. So you can’t disconnect yourself from the fans. At the same token, you’ve got to take a measured approach.”

Joe finds it hard to believe Team Glazer, any one of them, could look a serious Bucs fan in the face this week and detail exactly why Todd Bowles is the guy to lead the Bucs to the Super Bowl again.

Sure, Team Glazer could offer plenty of reasons why Bowles was handicapped this season via injuries, talent, etc., but those are not reasons affirming the positive: that the team is on the right track with the right leader.

Fans matter.

And fans, as a collective body, are very rarely unreasonable when it comes to the big picture of a team.

We all want to win, as Glazer eloquently explained.
