HOUSTON – The Texans are elevating veteran defensive lineman Leki Fotu from the practice squad for the second week in a row., per a league source.
He recorded two tackles in his debut with the Texans last week in a win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Texans later made this move official and elevated safety Kaevon Merriweather.
Fotu is a 6-foot-5, 317-pound former Arizona Cardinals fourth-round draft pick from Utah.
He has also played for the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders.
He has played in 65 games with 25 career starts, recording 102 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks, 15 tackles for losses and eight quarterback hits with one forced fumble.
A two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection, Fotu has run the 40-yard dash in 5.15 seconds.
Fotu has played in six games this season for the Raiders.
Fotu has four starts this season and eight tackle with one sack and three tackles for losses.
Merriweather is a former undrafted free agent from Iowa who has played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He has also played for the Detroit Lions.
Merriweather (6-foot, 212) has 38 career tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery and two passes defensed in the NFL.
At Iowa, he was an All-American selection.
The Texans didn’t activate cornerback Ajani Carter and defensive end Darrell Taylor.
Texans Pro Bowl linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was fined $23,186 for unnecessary roughness for use of helmet stemming from a first quarter infraction last Sunday.
Texans defensive end Denico Autry was fined $12,172 for unnecessary roughness for tripping in the second quarter last week.
Chargers defensive tackle Teair Tart was fined $11,593 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting Texans tight end Dalton Schultz, who was flagged for shoving Tart in retaliation.
