A few days after announcing his intention to enter the transfer portal, former North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker’s next destination is official.

According to multiple reports from On3 and ESPN, Mestemaker is headed to Oklahoma State to continue playing for Eric Morris, who left UNT for Oklahoma State as well. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Mestemaker is signing with the Cowboys on a two-year deal.

“I think Coach Morris is the best playcaller in the nation,” he told ESPN. “The insight he has, and the way he sees offense, and the way he makes me at quarterback comfortable in everything we are running.

“I feel like sets me up for success in everything that he calls.”

Mestemaker was one of the biggest breakout stars in college football this season, powering the Mean Green to a 12-2 season. He led the nation with 4,379 passing yards and threw 34 touchdown passes.

“This was not an easy choice,” Mestemaker wrote in his announcement that he was entering the portal. “My time at North Texas has meant more to me than I can ever fully express.”

He’ll look to continue to boost his NFL draft stock in the Big 12 after seeing remarkable results in his first full season as a starting quarterback since his freshman year of high school at Austin Vandegrift. Mestemaker capped his UNT career by throwing for 250 yards and three touchdowns in the Mean Green’s New Mexico Bowl win over San Diego State.

Oklahoma State’s roster is in a state of flux, with over 50 players currently in the transfer portal since the firing of Mike Gundy in September. Mestemaker is the first former North Texas player to follow Morris to Oklahoma State and probably won’t be the last as Morris looks to get the Cowboys’ football program back on track in his first season.
