The transfer portal is in full swing, and the college football world will never be the same.

Thousands of players across Division I football are attempting to make the jump to a new program over the 15-day transfer window, and while some will find greener pastures, some may be left without a team.

Although a lot of Group of Five and middling Power Four schools were hit hardest by departures, even the kings who’ve done well in the College Football Playoff era are getting hit with former top recruits leaving the building.

Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame is no exception, and they lost another depth piece on their roster to the portal as they gear up for a hopeful return to the CFP in 2026.

Nebraska’s Anthony Rezac was a sophomore QB awaiting his chance to play for Freeman, but he has decided to go elsewhere to increase his chances of starting.

Formerly a well-regarded recruit, Rezac will be signing with FCS powerhouse South Dakota State.

The Jackrabbits are one of the best FCS teams of the decade, having won two national titles in 2022 and 2023.

While Rezac will be aiming to start for South Dakota State, it won’t be easy, as current signal caller Chase Mason is committed to the Jackrabbits’ quest to return to the top of the FCS in 2026. Mason threw for 2,005 yards, 15 touchdowns, and four interceptions for the program this season, which ended in a second-round playoff defeat to Montana.

The transfer portal officially closes on Friday, Jan. 16.
