Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore is widely viewed as the second-best quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft class behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, but he hasn’t made a decision just yet.

Moore is expected to declare for the draft, but ESPN’s Todd McShay feels that the 20-year-old could actually return to school for another year just to avoid the New York Jets, who own the No. 2 overall pick and are in dire need of a signal-caller.

“Would you or would you not as the representative for Dante Moore kind of reach out to the Raiders and say, ‘Hey, my client is trying to make a decision. We can live with going to 30 of the 32 teams, maybe it’s 31, I can’t allow him to go to the New York Jets,'” McShay said.

The Raiders own the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL Draft, and most feel they will take Mendoza, but McShay is suggesting Moore call Las Vegas’ front office to get an idea of whether or not the Raiders would consider selecting him instead. If not, then a return to Eugene would be advisable.

“He’s got an opportunity to go back to Oregon and probably make the same amount of money that he’s going to make in his rookie contract,” McShay added. “So I can allow my client to go back to Oregon and have another season … or you can pretty much promise me that he’s going to be the No. 1 overall pick.”

Moore has thrown for 3,280 yards, 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 72.9 percent of his passes this season. Additionally, he has rushed for 184 yards and a couple of scores.

There is no question the Jets don’t exactly represent the best landing spot for any quarterback. Look at their history. But it’s not like the Raiders would offer a much better scenario.

It seems relatively farfetched that Moore would pass on the opportunity to be a No. 2 overall pick just to avoid one particular team. He could try to force his way to another NFL team, but returning to school just to dodge the Jets is probably just a bit too drastic.

We’ll see what Moore decides to do, but he obviously has bigger fish to fry with the Hoosiers on deck in the College Football Playoff semifinal this Friday.
