Daniel Carlson hits 60-yard field goal to lift Raiders over Chiefs

Travis Kelce’s contract is up in March. What’s next?

  • January 6, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – For the first time in more than a decade, the Chiefs season is over before the playoffs kickoff.

Now, all eyes are on Travis Kelce and his upcoming decision: stay another year, or call it a career?

“I’ll let that be a decision I’ll make with my family, friends, the Chiefs organization when the time comes,” Kelce said after the Chiefs’ Christmas loss to Denver at Arrowhead.

With the season now over, the clock is ticking.

In his end of year Zoom press conference Monday, head coach Andy Reid addressed if the team was eyeing a date for Kelce’s decision.

“We have a little bit of time before all of that stuff really needs to take place,” Reid said. “I’m not trying to avoid your question here but that’s what’s real right now.”

Kelce previously told reporters in November he wanted to give the team “a good opportunity to know whether I come back or not” before free agency ramps up.

“I know everybody wants the answer right this minute but it’s something that you’ve got to go through,” Reid said. There are a lot of variables there but we all love Trav (Kelce) so we know that. Trav can still play and I’m not questioning that part or any of it.”

Kelce led the Chiefs with 851 receiving yards this season.

He finished the 2025 season by making even more NFL history, reaching 13,000 career receiving yards against Las Vegas Sunday. He’s just the third tight end to ever reach the milestone and is the fastest in NFL history to do so.
