The season is officially over for the New York Giants, which means that Russell Wilson has also completed Year 14 of what has been a decorated NFL career. Wilson’s campaign with the Giants did not go according to plan, though. After signing with the team in the offseason, it only took the 10-time Pro Bowler three games to lose his starting spot to rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Wilson ended up sitting on the bench the rest of the way, even being relegated to a third-string QB as the season progressed. In six appearances made (three starts) for the Giants in 2025, Wilson registered 69-of-119 completed passes (58.0%) for 831 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Wilson grabbed headlines on Monday after he revealed that he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring tear ahead of the Giants’ Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The 37-year-old played through the injury against the Cowboys and got another start the following week against the Kansas City Chiefs.
It was only after the loss to the Chiefs — New York’s third consecutive defeat to open the season — that Wilson got benched in favor of Dart.
This revelation drew a lot of attention around the NFL world. So much so that Wilson has had to address an “inevitable NFL investigation” on his undisclosed injury. The veteran QB took to social media to take full responsibility for his injury revelation.

“Not the @Giants fault! they didn’t know bc I didn’t want to tell anyone bc of the circumstances. I just had to play through it to try and go ball that day! Thought we were going to Win that wild crazy game!” Wilson posted on X.
Based on Wilson’s statement, the Giants are not guilty of any wrongdoing with regard to the Super Bowl-winning QB’s injury. Wilson claims that he did not reveal his injury to the team and that it was his own decision to play through the same.

Either way, it now appears that Wilson’s time with the Giants has come to an end. He signed a one-year deal with the team, which means that he will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
At this point, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Wilson’s NFL future, and this mysterious hamstring injury has added another layer of complication for any team out there that might be willing to give him a look.
