A decade after the Legion of Boom’s historic run, the Seattle Seahawks once again have the NFL’s top-ranked scoring defense.

Daniel Jeremiah: Three reasons Seahawks are NFC’s No. 1 seed

The Seahawks allowed a league-low 17.2 points per game this season, finishing just ahead of the Houston Texans at 17.4 points per game. Propelled by that dominant defense, nicknamed “The Dark Side,” the Seahawks finished with a franchise-best 14-3 record and enter the playoffs as the NFC’s No. 1 seed.

It marks the fifth time in franchise history that Seattle has led the NFL in scoring defense. The previous four times came during the Legion of Boom’s dominant four-year run from 2012-15.

How does Mike Macdonald’s 2025 Seahawks defense compare to the other four top-ranked scoring defenses in franchise history?

To be fair, the Legion of Boom-era defenses are a nearly impossible standard to match. The legendary 2013 unit was on a short list of the best defenses in NFL history. And while the 2014 group took a while to get going, it went nuclear down the stretch, allowing just 39 points combined over its final six regular-season games.

As great as the 2025 Seahawks’ defense has been, it’s not quite at that historic, all-time great level – at least, not yet.

But nevertheless, let’s take a look at how Macdonald’s crew compares to those legendary L.O.B. units of years past.
