Perhaps more fuel has been added to the Jaguars’ fire heading into the playoffs.
Despite the Jacksonville Jaguars’ success throughout the second half of the season — which includes entering the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak, reaching 13 wins, and securing the AFC South title — this team has largely flown under the radar this season.
This Jaguars team certainly isn’t dwelling on the lack of attention, but they have taken notice, with head coach Liam Coen often using that as a motivating tool each week.
Jacksonville doesn’t believe they are getting the respect that they deserve.
“I don’t know if we’ll ever really get [respect],” Coen said back on Dec. 7th, via ESPN. “That’s the beauty of it. It ain’t coming. You know that. It’s not. And that’s the beauty of it. And that’s totally fine.”
Well, with AFC wild-card weekend nearly upon us, the Jaguars have seemingly found their latest motivator.
Although they have a better record than the Buffalo Bills and will be the home team on Sunday, the Jaguars are underdogs heading into this week’s game.
Coen has taken notice. On a recent appearance on the ‘Rich Eisen Show,’ Coen was asked if the Jaguars still take note of what is being said — or not said — about his team.
“Well, we’re home underdogs,” Coen said to Eisen. “So I think we got something.”
Throughout the season, the Jaguars have utilized various talking points as some added motivation. This includes Coen  sharing with the team Sean Payton’s comments about the Jaguars being a small-market team prior to the game against Denver.
The Las Vegas oddsmakers have apparently added the latest dose of fuel to the Jaguars’ fire.
