The Commanders have also moved on from OL coach Bobby Johnson, sources told me and @DMRussini.

In the second year of the current coaching administration, the Washington Commanders had an utterly disappointing season. The five wins the Commanders earned didn’t do much for the team’s morale, especially once the injuries started to pile up.

Now that the regular season is over, the Commanders are in offseason mode and making changes at many levels. They’ve already fired both Kliff Kingsbury and Joe Whitt, and now they are cutting ties with offensive line coach Bobby Johnson.

Johnson joined the Commanders in 2024 when the bulk of the rest of the coaching staff landed in Landover, Maryland, and he’s been coaching in the NFL since 2010. Considering how the offensive line performed this season and how well first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr. developed in the second half of the season, this is a bit of a surprise.

To be fair, the dismissal of Kliff Kingsbury was also a surprise. The 2025 offense cannot be compared to the 2024 offense simply because of the injuries to Jayden Daniels and others, including Terry McLaurin. When your starting quarterback isn’t on the field, it affects the production and performance of every other player on the offense.

Still, it looks like the Commanders are ready to move on from that offensive scheme and look for a fresh starting point. The search for their replacements is underway.
