Matt Eberflus had to be let go as the defensive coordinator. Mainly for the fact he joins a list that no NFL team wants to be on. Giving up, over 500 points in a season happens so rarely and the Dallas Cowboys had a chance to set the record in the final game. The 2024 Carolina Panthers hold the record at 534 points given up in a season.
Tommy Yarrish with the Dallas Cowboys website has his predictions up after the Eberflus firing. The Dallas Cowboys in recent years have become a fan of hiring former head coaches into the defensive coordinator position. The Atlanta Falcons just fired Raheem Morris and current Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is very close with Morris.
Another possibility is the former Arizona Cardinals head coach who was fired this week in Jonathan Gannon. He knows the NFC East well, before becoming the Cardinals head coach he was the Eagles defensive coordinator. We will have to wait and see what Jerry Jones does with the future of his team.
Well with the Dallas Cowboys season over many are looking towards the draft. Obviously one of the Dallas Cowboys first round picks is not locked in until we see what happens to the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs. However, CBS Sports has a mock draft up and they have the Cowboys going defense with their two first round picks. They have linebacker Sonny Styles from Ohio State (pictured above) with the 12th pick for the Cowboys and with the other Cowboys pick from Green Bay. They have Dallas selecting T.J. Parker out of Clemson (pictured below).
We will wait and see what the future holds for the Dallas Cowboys defense because it can only go up from here.
