With John Harbaugh’s firing by the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, speculation is rife online as to where he’ll go next. And, as with any speculation, sportsbooks and prediction markets are getting into it, too. As of Wednesday morning, one team had risen to the top of the betting markets: Harbaugh is favored to go to the New York Giants.
With seven open head coaching jobs in the NFL after “Black Monday,” including his former team, reports say that Harbaugh fielded several calls as soon as his firing was announced (meaning that at least one franchise with a head coach currently in place gave him a buzz).
John Harbaugh has interest from most teams with head coaching vacancies, but notably, I’m told calls are also coming in from a few teams that currently have a head coach in place.
Lots of discussions going down tonight.

But it’s the Giants — presumably one of the seven calls — who are winning, in the rumor mill at least.
On DraftKings, Harbaugh is the favorite in the Giants’ next-coach market at -150 odds, which implies a 60 percent likelihood. Those odds shortened Wednesday morning from +150 (40 percent chance).
“John Harbaugh is shaping up to be the most coveted head coaching candidate of this cycle and should have his pick of available openings,” Johnny Avello, director of sports operations at DraftKings, told The Athletic. “The Giants have already signaled strong interest, and from Harbaugh’s perspective, the roster checks a lot of boxes — a franchise quarterback, star receiver and plenty of pieces on defense. Our current odds reflect that alignment, but we’ll continue to adjust as the coaching market and news cycle develop.”
Before we all throw our money at the pairing, let’s note that former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is just behind him at +200 (a 33.33 percent implied chance). Stefanski’s odds have been lengthening while Harbaugh’s are shortening.

Here are Harbaugh’s odds on DraftKings to be the next permanent head coach at the other teams with an opening:
Las Vegas Raiders: +450 (second behind Brian Flores’ +150)
Atlanta Falcons: +650 (third with Klint Kubiak as the favorite at +300)
Tennessee Titans: +800 (Matt Nagy is the favorite at +130)
Arizona Cardinals: +800 (Vance Joseph is the favorite at +500)
DraftKings doesn’t have a market for the Cleveland Browns’ open spot, but prediction market Kalshi has Harbaugh favored there ahead of Kliff Kingsbury and Kubiak, though at just 17 percent, much lower odds than the market favors him for the Giants’ job (52 percent). Kubiak was the favorite for that market until the Harbaugh news broke yesterday.
We asked Charlotte Carroll, The Athletic’s reporter for the New York Giants, what she thinks:
“You have to imagine John Harbaugh immediately jumped to the top of the Giants’ coaching wish list upon his firing from Baltimore,” Carroll said. “He checks all the boxes. Not only does he have the winning record and championship pedigree, he’s got the leadership qualities the Giants are looking for, as general manager Joe Schoen said in his end-of-season press conference.”
The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor thinks it’s a no-brainer:
“It seems a bit ridiculous to write that the Giants need to hire Harbaugh. It’s like telling some struggling comedy club that it needs to book Dave Chappelle. That’s why the Giants were working on meeting with Harbaugh as early as this weekend, with the possibility that scheduling challenges will push the conversation into next week.”
So, while we’re wildly speculating, where do you think Harbaugh will go?
