A member of the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff is reportedly garnering interest for a head coaching opportunity.Dianna Russini, the Athletic’s NFL insider, reported Wednesday the Cleveland Browns have requested to interview Cincinnati offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher for their head coaching vacancy.Having been on the Bengals coaching staff since 2016, Pitcher finished his second season as the team’s offensive coordinator.Despite an early season injury to Joe Burrow, and starting three quarterbacks total, the Bengals finished in the middle of the NFL in total offense, averaging 329.2 yards per game and were the sixth best passing offense in the league, averaging 235.6 yards per game.In 2024, his first year as the team’s OC, the Bengals finished with the ninth-best offense in the NFL, posting 365.5 yards per game, and were the owners of the best passing attack, averaging 272.9 yards a game from the arm of Joe Burrow.Their 27.8 points per game were good for the sixth-best scoring offense that year.Cleveland is one of seven open head coaching jobs across the NFL, after the Browns fired two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski this week.Another AFC North rival, the Baltimore Ravens, also are among teams with a vacancy.It has become somewhat routine for Cincinnati’s head assistant coaches to get attention for head coaching openings.Former offensive and defensive coordinators Brian Callahan and Lou Anarumo were frequent interview requests by other teams.Callahan eventually landed a head coaching job, being named to the position with the Tennessee Titans in 2004.
