The Tennessee Titans are continuing to cast a broad net in their coaching search, and it is becoming clear that former head-coaching experience is a coveted characteristic as they head into the first round of interviews.

That trait became even clearer with the report that the Titans have scheduled a Friday interview with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

The report came as a bit of a surprise, given that Garrett had been out of the league since 2021, when he was let go by the New York Giants after a disastrous two-year stint as offensive coordinator. The Giants’ offense struggled, and the team finished 10-23 over that span. Their offense was ranked no higher than 31st in the league in both points and yards during his tenure.

Before his time in New York, he had some success with the Cowboys. He was head coach from 2011-2019 and was named the 2016 NFL Coach of the Year, amassing an 85-67 record with three NFC East Championships, though his teams never advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs.

Since being fired by the Giants, he has turned his attention to broadcasting and has been part of NBC’s NFL team and a primary broadcaster for Notre Dame football since 2022. Like other candidates, this will be a virtual interview, and little has been released about his potential candidacy.

The Titans will hold their first virtual meetings today with Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, and could add some more names in the coming days.Â
