Just like the Tennessee Titans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a disappointing season, and their head coach, Todd Bowles, made significant changes to his coaching staff after the season, including firing offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard. And to take his place, he looked to the Titans for a potential answer.Â
The Buccaneers announced that they have completed an initial virtual interview with former Titans head coach Brian Callahan for their open coordinator position. This is the first mention of Callahan in connection with an NFL job since he was fired by the Titans in October after a disastrous start to the season.Â
To say Callahan’s tenure with the Titans was a complete failure would be an understatement. Hired after a successful stint as offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals, his offensive system and playcalling never translated to success with the Titans, finishing his time in Nashville with a dismal 4-19 overall record from 2024-2025.
Prior to his time with the Titans, Callahan proved to be capable, climbed the coaching ranks, and was credited with playing a significant role in the Bengals’ run to the Super Bowl in 2021. Unfortunately, once he took the reins in Nashville, his lack of play-calling experience became apparent, and Tennessee struggled on that side of the ball.Â
At this point, Callahan is not viewed as a front-runner for the position, with Bowles casting a wide net in his search. But it is notable that his system is similar to what is in place with the Buccaneers, which could be attractive to both Bowles and quarterback Baker Mayfield.Â
