Everything Hoosiers fans need to know before the College Football National Championship

  • January 10, 2026

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers are heading to the National Championship for the first time in program history, where they’ll be taking on the University of Miami at Hard Rock Stadium on January 19.

Hoosier fans have been closely following this historic season, and they have one more chance to make more history when they try for their first-ever national championship.

If you’re looking to head down to the game, one airline has made it that much easier to get to Miami directly.

Frontier Airlines announced Friday night, shortly after the team defeated the Oregon Ducks in the Peach Bowl, that they’ll be temporarily adding flights from Indianapolis to Miami on Saturday and Sunday before the game. Looking at prices for the flight at 1:10 p.m. on the 17th, the cheapest is around $405.

Return flights from Miami to Indianapolis are set for January 20.

In Louisville, we already have a direct flight to Miami next Saturday through American Airlines, with prices starting at $600.

Getting down to the game is one story; getting tickets to the game is another.

Tickets are still available for the the natty at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, but start at around $4,000 in the nosebleeds.

Locally, fan groups have been meeting all season to watch the Hoosiers go undefeated.

One of the many places welcoming fans is Harry’s Taphouse and Kitchen in Jeffersonville.

They held a watch party for the Peach Bowl, and according to their Facebook, they plan to do so for the national championship.

Coming off the big win, people in the area told WAVE just how excited they are.

“Unbelievable, something I never thought I’d see, we’ve never seen them go to the national championship and it’s just unbelievable,” said fan Isaiah Reece.

“I’m a lifelong Raiders fan, and we have the number one pick, so it’s sort of been like, I think we’re gonna get a quarterback in Mendoza, and the last two games he’s just cemented that fact,” said another fan.

And if you want to take in this history-making game from the comforts of your own home, you can watch the Hoosiers take on Miami at 7:30 on January 19 on ESPN.
