Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson will be a legitimate game-time decision against the 49ers in the wild-card round, a league source told NBC Sports Philadelphia on Saturday night.
Johnson, 35, has missed the last seven games with a Lisfranc sprain in his foot. He was a limited participant in practice all week and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.
Johnson experienced some swelling in his foot on Saturday, a source said. That leaves his status for Sunday’s game up in the air.
While Johnson’s replacement, Fred Johnson, has played well in the last month and a half, it would obviously be a big boost for the Eagles to get Lane Johnson back on the field Sunday. The Eagles are 8-2 with Johnson this season and are 3-4 without him.
And that just continues a trend. Since 2016, the Eagles are 94-41-1 with Johnson and 15-27 without him.
While Johnson is in Year 13 of his NFL career, he was playing at an extremely high level through 10 games this season. In those 10 games, Johnson had given up just 7 pressures and 0 sacks, per Pro Football Focus.
The Eagles on Saturday also downgraded OL Brett Toth (concussion) to out. Toth also entered the weekend listed as questionable but won’t be available against the 49ers. Toth has been a valuable backup at both guard and center this season.
We’ll see what happens with Johnson, but the Eagles are pretty healthy going into the playoffs. The only other starter who won’t play on Sunday is rookie safety Drew Mukuba, who fractured his ankle in Dallas in late November.
