Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is one step closer to getting his wish.

In the past, Burrow has indicated that he might like to play flag football at the Olympics, provided that becomes a thing for the sport that is currently enjoying an explosion in popularity.

Tuesday, that door fully opened, with NFL owners approving NFL players being permitted to practice in flag football at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“That’s an exciting opportunity. I’m not entirely sure how that would work out with training camp and all of our obligations here,” Burrow said. “But that’s something I would like to do for sure.”

NFL players will now be able to attend tryouts for their respective countries’ teams. The Olympics, set for July 14–30, 2028, will include six men’s and women’s teams with 10 players per team.

As of now, it sounds like a five-on-five format, meaning at least one starting quarterback, though that and plenty of other details can change between now and the event itself. Also as of now, there is reportedly one NFL player permitted per roster.

Either way, it’s fun to think that players like Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase could now take part in the major event.
