In 2023, four Michigan high schools took part in a pilot program for the states first ever girls flag football program.

Now just a few years later the program has grown with 67 teams expected to play this spring.
One Michigan high school senior who just started playing the game is getting a chance to join 31 other girls nationwide to compete in the NFL FLAG College Showcase at the Pro Bowl Games this February.

17-year-old Jillian Weaver played flag football for the first time last year, but she’s not new to being an athlete.
Weaver also plays tennis and volleyball for the Bulldogs.
How She Got Picked
Weaver got nominated by the Detroit Lions.
Chris Fritzsching is the Lions executive director of football education and shared how the decisions was made.
We made the selection based on what those girls did on the field and what they did in their communities and what they did within their schools from a leadership standpoint.

Weaver got the exciting news from Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery.
Weaver tells ABC 7 that she plans to continue playing flag football in college and has received multiple offers.
