LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – For our second stop of spring ball we head over to the north side, as the wolverines are led by 2nd year head coach Lorenzo Williams.
Coach Zo and company aren’t taking these early reps for granted, they are taking this opportunity to grow as a team and improve on last year’s playoff run.
“I’m feeling amazing,” Williams said. “I think we’re getting the chemistry together. I think we’re getting all that we’re gonna do this spring, getting ready for this Bixby camp. Coming together as a team. Competing as a team coming out here every day to get better, get each other better, and just go from there as a program.”
“Yeah, just to come together as a team,” LHS Football player D’Andre Williamson said. “I don’t want to be, you know, week six of the season when we get together and our coaches getting built and established, stuff like that. So a little bit more accountability to start off with. A little bit more camaraderie to start off with and then try to get together more as a team before we get to the season start.”
Moving to the offensive side of the ball, the Wolverines have some big shoes to fill, Tavaris Deans is their leading wideout, Nate Jones at running back, and Pene Vaisgote so a lot of the early spring focus is getting reps for the skill players like Jaevon Adams.
“A lot of our offense guys left just a lot of great guys on that side of the ball. So we’re working really offense this week,” Adams said. “We’re doing pretty well. We got a lot of new guys, like I said, so they’re helping us.“
Moving over to the defense they already are fired up for the upcoming season, Joshua Long Jr. and his guys on defense are knocking the rust off the hard way by bringing the intensity in the early spring.
“You know, getting today’s coverage, knowing how to play one on one, seven on seven,” Long said. “But the second day, you know, we get more into like the seven on seven.“
