Detroit Lions passing game coordinator David Shaw interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for its offensive coordinator opening on Saturday.
In his first season with the Lions, Shaw helped direct a Detroit passing attack that finished the 2025 regular season ranked as the NFL’s No. 3 passing offense, averaging 253.1 passing yards per game. Lions quarterback Jared Goff passed for 4,564 yards and 34 touchdowns, both of which ranked second among NFL quarterbacks.
Detroit had the NFL’s No. 5 total offense (373.2 yards per game) and scoring offense (28.3 points per game).
Before joining the Lions, Shaw served as a senior personnel executive with the Denver Broncos in 2024.
Of course, Shaw was the longtime head coach of the Stanford Cardinal from 2011-22, where he won 96 games to become the winningest coach in Stanford history. During his stint leading the Cardinal, Stanford and Shaw captured three Pac-12 titles, appeared in eight bowl games and won two Rose Bowls. Shaw was a four-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year recipient.

Shaw’s NFL coaching experience began in 1997 as an offensive quality control coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. Shaw then had stints as an offensive quality control coach with the Oakland Raiders (1998-00), served as the Raiders‘ quarterbacks coach (2001), as the Baltimore Ravens‘ quarterbacks and wide receivers coach (2002-05) and as San Diego’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach (2006).
