One of the biggest winners from the New Orleans Saints 2025 season was Chase Young. He established himself as a franchise cornerstone and a star for years to come. He revitalized the Saints defensive line and proved that he is one of the best players on the team.
Most people assume Young is older because he’s been in the league since 2020, however, this couldn’t be further from the truth as he’s only 26 years old. In fact, he’s only five months older than Tyler Shough. Young still has plenty of gas left in the tank; he will be a major contributor for years to come.
Young ended the season with 10 sacks, 38 tackles, and 49 pressures in 12 games played. He missed the start of the year with a calf injury but rebounded and was excellent down the stretch. His final two games were pure dominance, with a combined three sacks, one forced fumble, one touchdown, and a pass deflection. The Saints couldn’t ask anything more from Young.
The Saints extension with Chase Young was a steal this offseason
Young finished the season so strong that he was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month. The final month wasn’t just a random surge. This was the culmination of what he was building all year and what he’ll be able to build upon next season. We’ve seen it with our eyes, and the award is just the cherry on top. It just serves as reminder that Young is growing into an impact player the Saints wanted when he signed a new contract last offseason.
The Saints signed a three-year, $51 million extension this offseason to stay in New Orleans. At the time, this move was viewed as risky. He was an injury-prone edge rusher who only produced 5.5 sacks last year. However, it paid dividends as he’s now a premier edge rusher in the league.
Because of this deal, the Saints can still build a talented roster without having to worry about the cap. They’ve been working on gaining financial freedom recently, and this will significantly help with that. For at least another year, the Saints will have a double digit sack player on a respectable contract.
Saints fans should be ecstatic about Chase Young’s breakout season. He established himself as a top player on this team and a franchise cornerstone. The outlook is bright with No. 99 rushing the passer.
