Syracuse, N.Y. — Former Toledo cornerback Amare Snowden is transferring to Syracuse, he announced via Instagram.

Snowden will join linebacker Chris D’Appolonia and defensive coordinator Vince Kehres in the move from Toledo to Syracuse.

Snowden is listed at 6-4, 210 pounds, resembling the size of a safety more than a cornerback. He hasn’t played much college football, either.

Snowden played in just two games for a total of three defensive snaps at Wisconsin. He initially committed to Cincinnati, where he could have also played baseball. However, he followed head coach Luke Fickell to Madison.

Snowden’s mother died before his second season at Wisconsin during the Badgers’ training camp in 2024. He spoke about how her death was a traumatizing event that was difficult to accept.

Baseball helped comfort him, he told Madison.com. It was the sport his mother preferred, and the stitching on the ball helps remind him to be in the moment.

Snowden transferred to Toledo ahead of the 2025 season. He played in one game for the Rockets, earning two snaps in kick coverage.

Toledo also allowed Snowden to play baseball. The left-handed pitcher made no appearances, though, as a mid-year transfer.

Now, Syracuse will take a chance on Snowden, who will have at least two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Before enrolling at Wisconsin, Snowden was a four-star recruit out of Roseville (Michigan). He was a first-team All-Michigan selection and made the Detroit Free Press Dream Team.

Snowden was ranked as the No. 13 player in Michigan and the No. 64 cornerback in the country, according to 247Sports. He is unranked as a transfer.

Syracuse had 13 scholarship defensive backs before Snowden’s arrival.

Players have until Jan. 16 to enter their names into the transfer portal.
