Texans backup Davis Mills didn’t travel with team for personal reasons, expected to make it to Pittsburgh independently

  • January 11, 2026

PITTSBURGH – Texans backup quarterback Davis Mills didn’t travel with the team due to personal reasons Sunday for their road trip to Pittsburgh for an AFC wild-card round playoff game.

Mills is expected to join the team and fly to Pittsburgh independently in advance of a Monday night game against the Steelers.

Mills and his wife recently posted on social media about the birth of a boy, the couple’s first child.

“Our boy is here,” the couple posted on Instagram about Maximus Steven Mills, who was born on Jan. 5.

Mills did practice all week, following the birth of his son.

He is officially listed as questionable.

Mills is 3-0 this season, throwing five touchdowns with one interception, when he started three games while starter C.J. Stroud was recovering from a concussion. If Mills doesn’t make the trip, then rookie Graham Mertz would back up Stroud against the Steelers.

The Texans officially ruled out reserve cornerback Ajani Carter, the North Shore graduate who has been designated for return and not activated from injured reserve. Carter didn’t make the trip to Pittsburgh.
