Former LSU All-American Billy Truax, who played for the Tigers from 1961-63, has died. He was 82 years old.
Truax helped LSU to a 26-6-1 record and an SEC championship during his college career. He also helped the Tigers to victories in the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl.
He then headed to the NFL and spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants during his pro football career.
A member of the LSU Hall of Fame, Truax played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1971-73, helping the Cowboys to a win in Super Bowl VI.
Billy Truax finished his NFL career with 199 receptions for 2,458 yards and 17 touchdowns. His best year playing pro football came in 1967 with the Rams when he caught 37 passes for 487 yards and four scores.
Truax grew up in Louisiana and attended Holy Cross High School in New Orleans before playing at LSU. He participated in football, basketball, baseball and track in high school.
While Truax was drafted by the Browns and was a member of the franchise, he never played a game for Cleveland before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
He would go on to be a solid contributor for the Rams for seven seasons and Cowboys for three, before signing with the Giants ahead of the 1974 season. He was then cut by New York before ever appearing in a game.
