The NFL’s 2025 free agency market is set to open soon and just before then, the New York Jets and connection to quarterback Justin Fields has continued to grow.
Fields, 25, spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers but is a pending free agent. At noon on Monday, NFL teams are allowed to speak to such players from other clubs across the league and begin working out contracts before they can officially be signed on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets’ “situation” is something that Fields is keen to “understand more about.” While that shows Fields’ interest in heading to New York, going back to Pittsburgh might not be off the table for him, either:
Fields was a top draft pick of the Chicago Bears and moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. He had an interesting campaign.
Despite having a winning record he was replaced in the lineup by veteran Russell Wilson when he was healthy.
On Wilson, the Steelers will reportedly move on from him as the veteran is also a pending free agent. In addition to a familiar starting spot being open for Fields in Pittsburgh, the Steelers did recently trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf over the weekend.

It appears the Jets and new head coach Aaron Glenn are going to get an opportunity to chat with Fields before he makes a decision… but it might take some convincing based on those advantages the Steelers might have.
Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 free agency period.
