DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Eisenhower High School has named Benny Phillips the new Head Football Coach.
Phillips is currently the Eisenhower High School’s Athletic Director.
Phillips was appointed Athletic Director and has been a member of the Decatur Public School District 61 community since April 2022.
“Coach Phillips understands the importance of athletics and how it can shape student success,” said Dr. Mistie Rodriguez, Principal of Eisenhower High School. “His deep experience, commitment to our students, and passion for building strong traditions enables him to lead our football program. We are confident he will positively impact our athletes, school, and community.”
Coach Phillips’ coaching résumé includes serving as an assistant football coach for 25 years at:
● Kankakee High School
● Hillcrest High School
● Providence Catholic High School (member of the 2004 State Championship coaching staff)
● Joliet Township High School
● Springfield Lanphier High School
● Eisenhower High School
In addition to football, Phillips has approximately 26 years of experience coaching track and field.
Phillips is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, competed in track and field at the collegiate level and qualified for national competitions.
“I am honored and excited to serve as the head football coach at Eisenhower High School,” said Phillips. “This school and community mean a great deal to me. I look forward to working with our student-athletes, coaches, families, and supporters to build a program rooted in accountability, pride, and excellence.”
