Rice missed the first six games because of a suspension tied to a 2024 hit-and-run street racing crash in Dallas that led to legal trouble and a guilty plea for two felony charges. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for the crash and also was suspended by the NFL under its personal conduct rules. When Rashee Rice returned in October 2025, he showed flashes of his talent and even scored two touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders in his first game back. But he was later placed on injured reserve with a concussion in late December 2025, ending his season early as Kansas City failed to make the playoffs for the first time in years.
Rashee Rice’s big-play ability faces real tests from injuries and off-field trouble
Rashee Rice, who was born on April 22, 2000, in Philadelphia and played college football at SMU, became one of the Chiefs’ most promising young receivers after being drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he helped lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl LVIII win and set a record for most postseason catches by a rookie. In the 2025 season, Rice played in eight games and finished with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns before being ruled out due to a concussion late in the year. His absence, along with injuries to other key players, left the Chiefs without reliable pass-catching weapons as quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr. also dealt with injuries. Off the field, Rice has faced ongoing issues. In early January 2026, his former girlfriend Dacoda Nichole Jones, with whom he has two children, posted on social media alleging years of domestic abuse involving bruises and damage to her home. The Chiefs acknowledged they are aware of the accusations and are in contact with the NFL, but no criminal charges have been filed. Rice has not publicly responded, and Jones later deleted the post, adding confusion to the situation. Rice’s career has now become a mix of real NFL production and serious off-field headlines. His talent makes him a valuable player when healthy and available, but his suspensions, injuries, and now these allegations have left Chiefs coaches and fans wondering what the future holds for him in Kansas City, Missouri and beyond. Also Read: Shannon Sharpe Rips A.
