Chiefs sign Tre Watson to a reserve deal; Watson was on the Chiefs practice squad in 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs signed tight end Tre Watson to a reserve deal as part of their annual year-end roster moves. Watson will compete for a roster spot in the 2026 season.

This comes as rumors that Travis Kelce could retire have circulated throughout the season.

In his final home game at Arrowhead Stadium, Kelce soaked in the moment before heading out onto the field.

On the newest episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce said, “I’ve talked to a few people in the facility already with the exit meetings and they know where I stand at least right now.”

Kelce’s two-year, $34.25 million contract is up, making Travis an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Watson is entering his second season in the NFL. He was picked up by Kansas City as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M after the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs have four tight ends under contract for 2026, Noah Gray, Jared Wiley, Jake Briningstool and Watson.

Kansas City also signed WR Andrew Armstrong, LB Kam Arnold, DT Marcus Harris, WR Jimmy Holiday, RB ShunDerrick Powell and OT Matt Waletzko.
