2026 Free agents:
Biggest question facing the position group in 2026:
Will the Falcons find a way to keep Allgeier?
Atlanta drafted Allgeier in 2022 with a fifth-round pick. He was easily the Falcons’ leading rusher that season with 210 carries for 1,035 yards, which set the franchise record for most rushing yards by a rookie. However, he hasn’t exactly come close to those totals since then.
In 2023, the Falcons drafted running back Bijan Robinson with a first-round pick, and he quickly became Atlanta’s No. 1 rusher. Allgeier became the secondary, albeit more physical, option in a 1-2 punch ground attack.
Now, entering 2026, Allgeier is set to become a free agent. He was asked after the Falcons’ Week 18 win against the New Orleans Saints whether he wants to be back in Atlanta.
“We’ll see,” Allgeier said. “I don’t know. That’s (up to) the front office, I guess. It’s my first time being a free agent, so it should be very interesting what happens.”
Very interesting indeed, especially if another team comes around with an opportunity for Allgeier to claim the top spot on a depth chart.
“I always had my eyes on being the starter,” he said. “Obviously, when we had B come in, that kind of diminished it. But I think I always had the mindset of being a starter. … We’ve trained ourselves to be a starter, so that’s the goal, but who knows? We’ll see if we put enough film (together) to be able to say that.”
