Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will interview with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday for the franchise’s head coach vacancy, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports.
The Titans are interviewing Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley for their HC job today, per source.
They’ll interview ex-Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel and Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith tomorrow.

It’s been known since last week the Titans requested an interview with Smith. But Breer is the first to put a date on it. NFL rules stipulated tomorrow is the earliest Smith could have interviewed for the job. With the Steelers’ Monday night loss, his agenda becomes a lot more open and only makes it easier for him to speak with other teams.
Speaking to reporters last week, Smith acknowledged the report but said his focus was on Pittsburgh and the Wild Card game.
So far, Tennessee is the only team to show interest in Smith for a head coaching position. He has strong ties to the organization. A Memphis native, he coached in Tennessee from 2011 through 2020, beginning as an assistant coach before becoming a positional coach and eventually offensive coordinator. He led the offense to strong 2019 and 2020 showings and was on the coaching staff the last time the Titans won a playoff game.
It’s unclear how likely Smith is to land the job. His lasting impression was yesterday’s miserable loss to the Houston Texans. A game in which his offense mustered only six points and 175 yards, the latter the second fewest by the Steelers in a playoff game in franchise history and only besting a 1947 shutout loss.
For the regular season, Pittsburgh’s offense finished 15th in points and 25th in yards. Despite Smith’s reputation as one of the most run-heavy coordinators in football, the Steelers ranked only 28th and rushing attempts and 26th in yards after placing fourth and 11th a season ago. A lack of quarterback mobility certainly played a factor.
Tennessee has cast a wide net for its next head coach. Smith is upwards of a dozen names being considered. The Titans are likely looking for an experienced head coach similar to Mike Vrabel after striking out on first-timer Brian Callahan, who went 4-19 and was fired in October. Odds suggest the Titans will hire someone else, leaving Smith in Pittsburgh. Under contract for 2026, it seems more likely than not he returns for 2026 although Mike Tomlin and Aaron Rodgers’ future could impact Smith’s standing.
