The firings come after star quarterback Justin Herbert produces career-low performance in playoff loss
Chargers fans may finally see a light at the end of a tunnel. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman and offensive line coach Mike Devlin have been fired, the team announced on Tuesday.
The team announced that they will be looking to hire their fifth coordinator in the last six years. The Chargers’ season came to a disappointing end, and Coach Jim Harbaugh opened the idea of moving postgame. Harbaugh asked whether Roman was the right person to call plays for the team.
The firing came after the Chargers’ playoff loss to the New England Patriots. Justin Herbert produced a career-low performance.

Roman’s offense started when the season looked like it would be among the best of the best, with the passing offense, and the offensive line protected Herbert in the first week against Kansas City.
The offense never returned after the opening game, with a statement saying, ” Roman is known as the league’s most creative run-game architects, but his teams rely on having a physical, dominant offensive line. That foundation never materialized this season, in part due to injuries.”
The Chargers’ top free agent signing, right guard Mekhi Becton, fell short this season, playing in Roman’s scheme. Becton stated, “It was a lot of different things I’m not used to.”
Head coach Harbaugh stated after the most recent game, “We weren’t good enough as a team, and that’s what we do. We win as a team, we lose as a team, and that’s my responsibility to have that team in a better position.”

Now, the Chargers’ focus is on finding a new offensive coordinator and on elevating their roster, led by quarterback Justin Herbert.
