As the Tennessee Titans‘ search for a head coach continues, the idea of coaching in Nashville has become more intriguing than most thought. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz says there are two main reasons for this: Cam Ward and Mike Borgonzi.

At first, it seemed like no one would want to come to Tennessee. They have had a ton of turnover both in coaching staff and player personnel, and this past season was a mess. However, Schultz believes them to be a dark horse in this coaching carousel.

“The Titans are doing a very deep search, and they might end up with 20 head coach interviews. But over the last three to four weeks, I’ve heard from so many people around the league about how much they love Cam Ward after watching his film—especially the last month. His arm talent, his off-platform throws, and his ability to grow into a bona fide leader.

And for the first time in a while, I keep hearing about Titans leadership and people actually wanting to work there, primarily with GM Mike Borgonzi, who came in last year from Kansas City. He is very well-respected both as an evaluator, a scout, and also a collaborative leader himself. People want to work with him; they want to collaborate with him. And that job has become very attractive as a result.

I do believe, at the end of the day, Tennessee targets a kind of “Leader of Men” type. But don’t sleep on this job. The Falcons, the Ravens, even the Giants… but with a hundred plus million in cap, a promising GM, and an uber-talented young quarterback, the Titans to me are that dark horse big-time job of this cycle.

The Titans’ search continues, and they might have more options than they initially thought they would.
