The Pittsburgh Steelers will interview Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter for their open head coaching position, the fifth head coaching interview request the Steelers have put in this cycle.
Minter was the defensive coordinator for the top ten Chargers defense and followed Jim Harbaugh from Michigan to the Chargers when he took the job,
He was also a former assistant under John Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens. During that time, he coached the secondary before leaving the organization to head to the college ranks and being the defensive coordinator with Vanderbilt.
After being at Vanderbilt for one season, Minter went to Michigan and became their defensive coordinator for the next two seasons.
He has requests to interview for all of the openings in this head coaching cycle and is expected to land at least one job, though it is unknown just where yet, but the Steelers would fit the bill.
Minter, 42, is the type of coach the Steelers have hired over their past three tries at it, and all three of those coaches have Hall of Fame resumes to speak of over those years.
Minter is the son of Rick Minter, who was the head coach at the University of Cincinnati from 1994 to 2003. He works alongside his dad with the Chargers, with his father being a senior defensive assistant.
The Steelers have put in requests to interview five different coaches, including Rams passing game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase and defensive coordinator Chris Shula, Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, and Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
