Let’s make it 13! There are now thirteen candidates the Arizona Cardinals have either already interviewed or requested to interview to replace Jonathan Gannon as head coach. The latest name is Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cardinals submitted a request to interview Smith.
Arthur Smith coaching career
Smith had his first NFL stint in 2007 with the Washington Redskins as defensive quality control coach for two seasons.
He was out of the NFL and in college until 2011 when he started with the Tennessee Titans and was on that staff for 10 years. He began as a defensive quality control coach. He was offensive quality control coach. He coached the offensive line. He was an assistant tight ends coach and a tight ends coach before becoming offensive coordinator in 2019, a job he held for two seasons.

He then became the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He went 7-10 with the Falcons for three straight years before getting fired and taking the OC job with the Steelers in 2024.
While with the Titans, he worked with different head coaches — Mike Munchak, Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Mularkey and Mike Vrabel. ‘
He was in his final year as OC of the Titans when Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort had his first year in Tennessee as director of player personnel.
