The Kubiak brothers will go head-to-head in a win-or-go-home NFL playoff game this weekend, but there’s been no time to catch up.
The 49ers pulled out a thrilling win over the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC wild-card round last weekend, which meant a divisional round matchup with their biggest rivals in Seattle, and 49ers offensive coordinator coming face-to-face with his big brother, Klint Kubiak, who is the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks.
Klay spoke to Bay Area media before practice Wednesday and was asked who texted who first once the 49ers-Seahawks matchup was set — and the response might surprise you.
“There’s been no texting this week,” Klay responded, sternly. “No time. Six-day week again. We got to just get to work.”
OK, maybe not much of a surprise. It’s the playoffs, after all.
And despite the Kubiaks being family, there’s not a lot of love to go around between these two teams and fan bases.
Klay was responsible for the 49ers’ trick play that resulted in wide receiver Jauan Jennings throwing a touchdown pass to running back Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco’s victory against Philadelphia.
We’ll see if either brother tries to pull a quick one on each other’s team this weekend.
